Message from the SFYHA

Over MLK weekend both our Bantam and Pee Wee A teams won the championships for their divisions at the Lake Tahoe Invitational and  the Las Vegas Invitational tournaments, respectively. Our Pee Wee BB team made a strong showing in the A division in Vegas and placed 3rd. Our Mites team hosted another fun Hockey Mites event in San Francisco. Congratulations to all of our teams!

2017 DOUBLE-GOAL COACH® AWARD NATIONAL FINALISTS

Our amazing Squirts BB coach, Michelle Chee, is a finalist for the Positive Coaching Alliance Double-Goal Coach award. Coach Michelle was nominated by her team for this award that recognizes coaches who interact with players in a positive and “tank-filling” way, emphasize good sportsmanship and stress personal mastery for each player rather than just wins on the scoreboard. Coach Michelle was selected as one of 145 finalists out over 2,000 nominations. In the upcoming weeks, judges will select 50 national winners, culminating in PCA’s National Youth Sports Awards dinner on April 22nd in Palo Alto. We’ll keep you posted regarding the results. Coach Michelle is already a winner in our eyes! To learn more about PCA visit www.positivecoach.org

Concussion baseline testing coming soon!
In an effort to supplement our concussion protocols, the Sabercats organization will be offering bench-mark cognitive testing for our travel team players. This test determines a baseline so if a player gets a concussion the test can be repeated and the player’s healthcare provider will have additional information available to assess whether the player has fully recovered. The concussion testing program is by ImPact.
What does ImPact measure?
The test tracks a player’s symptoms and measures multiple aspects of cognitive functioning, including attention span, working memory, sustained and selective attention time, non-verbal problem solving, and reaction time.
Stay tuned for testing schedule details.
